Malili Well Project
In Malili each day begins with the search for water. Over 6,000 people inhabit this drought-ridden land where in 2009 alone over 80% of the cattle died due to lack of access to water. A child’s attendance at school is dependent on whether or not they have water duty that day, which requires them to leave out early in the morning to walk in search of water, obtain it and bring it back to their family. Sadly, often the water obtained is of poor drinking quality, resulting in waterborne illness. For less than most of us spend on a new car, we can dig a well deep enough to tap a water supply that will service Malili and two other communities within the area and provide clean, drinkable water for over 6,000 people, animals and crops.
