And the very ends of the earth as Your possession" Psalm 2:8

Joy Dagley African Feeding Center

The Kariobangi Youth Center started providing a mid-day meal for the children in response to Pastor Wambua and the staff noting that several of the children attending the school had difficulty concentrating and performing in school. Some of the children even reached the point of collapsing in class and requiring medical care.

Initially, the school's kitchen consisted of a wooden lean-to type building. The staff prepared a limited meal by cooking in a large pot placed over a fire on rocks.

As the school has grown from 35 to over 300 children, the need for a suitable kitchen and feeding center evolved as well as the goal to provide a more balanced diet including, protein, carbohydrates, fresh fruits and vegetables and milk to each child.

Modern kitchen in the Joy Dagley African Feeding CenterThe Joy Dagley African Feeding Center was opened in 2007.  The feeding center was built in memory of Joy Tindall Dagley of Burlington, North Carolina, USA. Joy invested in the ministry of Reverend Wambua at the Youth Center and requested that a project be done in her memory. Many of her family and friends helped to make this center a reality. All of the hired help during the construction of the center was local which also served as a means of building rapport in the community. One of the key benefits of the modern kitchen is that it eliminated the former method of cooking on rocks because we were able to furnish it with a wood stove, which makes cooking much easier and safer.

The children currently eat sitting on the floor of the feeding center and outside of the center on the ground.
